A Yoga Practice May Reduce Depression

Here is a bit of comforting research.  Some form of depression may affect as many as 17 million Americans.  There are numerous holistic approaches that may help also,  homeopathy for example,  a daily qi gong or tai chi practice and yoga.  Thanks to the wizardry of YouTube many classes are available on line and you are able to practice right in your living room.  Classes are available for all skill levels.

Research conducted at Boston University School of Medicine has identified at least one of the physiological reasons that yoga can life your mood. GABA.   GABA i(gamma amino butyric acid) is an amino acid which occurs naturally in the body.  It works as a neurotransmitter in your central nervous system and improves brain functioning.  GABA can be taken as a supplement to promote calm in body but is not addicting as some sedatives may be.

Check with your doctor prior to supplementing your diet with GABA to take the proper amount as it possible to over supplement.

Or get in the yoga habit.  Yoga has been shown to boost production of GABA with the benefits lasting for several days.  The research showed that doing a yoga class at least once a week helps to alleviate depression…safely.
