Marijuna May Pose a Problem for Youth
Marijuana is rapidly expanding its reach in America as additional states legalize its “recreational” use. There is an old saying that without your health you don’t have anything (much). And there is the rub. America is fast becoming an addicted wasteland. It is said that the sale of the plant will increase tax revenues. What a cost. It’s true that the majority of voters agreed to this. However I wonder if they really had all the facts as to how this plant affects the brain.
According to research reported in the journal of JAMA Pediatrics reports on how the young are more vulnerable to developing substance use disorders. Inner cities are already beseiged with young people like zombies on the streets. Our youth are our future and as adults we have a responsibility to demonstrate the ability to handle life and its concomitant adversities. Seeking short term pleasures with possible long term problems is no solution.
The rapper/singer DMX recently passed on due to congestive heart failure. He stated that he became hooked on drugs at the age of 14, when given marijuana laced with crack cocaine. And while the fact that is was adulterated may not happen often, the negative experiences shortened his life and stunted what ever gifts that he may have had to share with his family and others.
